Californian, to make a difference in Cultural & Environmental Conservation based in Costa Rica "Grant Writers Needed"

Hey everyone! I just signed up today and thought I should go right to the point! I was born and raised in Cali brought up watching National Geographics and the nature channel. My family has a wild life refuge in Costa Rica so I decided to move down here to look the project over. I now plan to create something larger that could potentially help all the Americas, I need help though! Ive been working on the creation of an organization for the past three years and am now ready to launch.
I need a team of voluntary grant writers to start and if or when everything goes well we could work on getting everyone traveling rights. The grants would not be to fund my organization but to fund projects that my organization will help. If anyone is interested maybe even coming down to Costa Rica and doing it please contact me....Its for a great cause and all will be transparent.

The San Francisco Foundation's ( http://www.sff.org/ )
FAITHS Initiative and Arts and Culture Program have
announced the FAITHS Arts and Culture Mini-Grants program
Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo).

ideas.

The program will provide mini-grants of up to $3,000 to
support free, community-based artistic and cultural

Kalliopeia Foundation

http://www.kalliopeia.org/index.htm

Kalliopeia Foundation works to support the evolution of a world culture that honors the underlying unity at the heart of life's rich diversity. Through our grantmaking we strive to foster ways of living which pay tribute to the innate dignity and creative potential within all people.

Kalliopeia primarily makes grants to U.S. nonprofit organizations aligned with our Mission that are incorporated and serving people in the United States. We do consider international grant applications from non-governmental organizations that are submitted as part of our Oneness program, although we will be more selective with these due to relative difficulties of international grantmaking.

Kalliopeia grants generally range from $5,000 to $20,000, although they may be less or more depending on the history of our relationship with an organization or other considerations.

Kalliopeia does not support large, institutionally-funded programs, but rather programs with modest budgets that tend to be overlooked by traditional funding sources.

Because the foundation focuses on programs and populations that do not receive mainstream funding, we recognize the value of establishing longer-term relationships where appropriate.

When evaluating an organization for a grant, we value:

strength and clarity of intention
commitment
vitality
honesty, straightforward communication, comprehensive information
inspired vision with effective implementation
a strong administrative foundation

We welcome proposals from programs serving people from all faiths and all walks of life.

Please see our grant application process for further information.

nonprofithub.com: Finding Grants

http://www.nonprofithub.com/articles/grantseeking.htm

Finding Grants

A great many nonprofit organizations depend on grants for at least part of their funding. So where do these grants come from? The two major sources of grant funding in the United States are the federal government and private foundations. Each and every working day, various government agencies and foundations large and small are announcing new grant opportunities, and the most aggressive nonprofits are jumping on them, making for fierce competition for the best grants. Fortunately, the Internet has made keeping up with major announcements easier than ever before.
The U.S. government has created a central clearing house for all federal grants at Grants.gov. The site includes up-to-date info on grants as they are announced by the various federal agencies but also has helpful tips, a glossary of terms used on the site, and the opportunity to subscribe to their email newsletter. Currently, all federal agencies are required to list their new announcements on the site, so keeping up with its announcements means that you don't have to worry about making any other efforts to track federal grant announcements.

Grants.gov is an important innovation, but it doesn't cover many grants made by state governments or regional planning agencies. Finding those grants may take a little more legwork. A good place to start is your state government website. These are usually easy to find (the URL is often structured as http://www.state.[state abbreviation].us/ or http://www.[state abbreviation].gov/); if you're not sure where to look, try going to a search engine such as Google and entering only the name of your state as a search term. Once you get to the site for your state, you can try visiting the page of the appropriate state agency or using the site's search function.

When searching for foundation grants, a good starting point is The Foundation Center. The site is an invaluable source of news and information on the world of grants, and has commonly used application forms, a glossary, useful announcements on upcoming conferences and training sessions, and a variety of other helpful resources for both organizations and individuals seeking grants. It offers (for a fee) a comprehensive online database of U.S. grantmakers and their grants. It also has free grant updates, which are available by visiting this page or by subscribing to their email newsletter.

As good as The Foundation Center is, its updates don't include every foundation grant available in the United States. To keep up with the latest announcements, it's best to use a variety of sources. One that's worth checking out is Guidestar. For a fee that varies by the number of authorized users and the terms of service, its Grant Explorer offers information on 42,000 U.S. grantmakers. SRA International offers a number of resources on both foundation grants and government grants, including state and local grant opportunities. Fundsnet Services offers grant listings and a variety of useful guides for the grantseeker. There are also a number of sites that specialize in a specific type of grant: Grants.Net offers information on grants in the sciences; techLEARNING.com covers grants for educators; Join Together offers email updates on grants to prevent substance abuse and gun violence.

Some grantseekers may also find it useful to subscribe to print publications that offer grant information in a particular field. The Quinlan Publishing Group publishes monthly and biweekly grant guides for educators, librarians, and municipal agencies. Thompson Publishing offers weekly grant guides as well as general publications on effective strategies for finding and applying for grants.

If these resources aren't producing the results you're looking for, you could try visiting any Internet search engine and simply searching for the type of grant you need. This may be quite time consuming, as you'll have to sift through a lot of links that don't contain the information you seek, but it can help you locate some grants that are not as well publicized and thus less competitive. Organizations whose missions are particularly specialized may find the Google Web Alert useful. To use this system, you simply visit the Google Alert page, enter your search terms and the frequency with which you'd like to receive updates, and Google will send you an email each time your terms show up in a new web document or news story. Again, this service will be most useful to organizations with an uncommon goal; commonly used search terms will result in an influx of dozens of links that will not be useful.

Grant writers or aspiring grant writers who'd like to volunteer...

Hi all,

I hope that this isn't totally inappropriate (*cringe*) but an organization that I work with is looking for people to volunteer some grant writing time. I told'em there'd probably be some kind of tribe about it!

Here's the organization: http://www.standupforkids.org/

If you're interested or want more info. send me a message directly, as I'll "leave" this tribe when I'm done with this post.

Specifically I work with the Atlanta chapter but there may be a chapter in your area that could use help too, I'd be happy to direct you.

Thanks for your time,

SS

Hi, I have spent several days at the library looking for grants and scholarships for graduate school. I am having trouble find funding for the arts, specifically Graphic Design. Does anyone know where I can look or have any suggestions or help in anyway...the biggest problem has been that I am applying to schools and need the money for the first year and will continue or least be enough until I qualify for the continuation grants. Thank you for any help you can give.

Any short-turnaround visual artist funding in SF?

Does anyone know of a source for short-turnaround, stop-gap funding for visual artists in San Francisco? The usual fiscal sponsors will take too long to fund a project that I have looming on the horizon. Is there some agency or foundation or whatever that will assist visual artists with small loans/grants/whatever (around $2,000) within a month or less? Every source I've been able to turn up so far has been either too slow, too big, or has to go through a mediary (which slows it down further).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Don't make me sell a kidney to fund this project!

I've spent a few hours researching them at The Foundation Center, but haven't been able to figure out what they're looking for from prospective grantseekers (other than artistic merit and need). Any info would be appreciated.

Links to resources I have found:

The International Documentary Association (IDA) has a program called IDA Fiscal Sponsorship which allows film makers to receive grants that are only given to non-profit organizations under IRS 501 (c)(3) tax code. This requires membership, but the IDA has a discount rate for full-time students. http://www.documentary.org/resources/funding/fiscalsponsorship.html

Robert Redford's Sundance Institute (they do the festival thing) has a Documentary Film Fund running off money from billionaire George Soros. http://institute.sundance.org/jsps/site.jsp?resource=pag_ex_programs_sdf_grants&sk=VPxZ0vpK2TOdKG8r

PBS has a page covering guidelines for grant writing. http://www.cpb.org/grants/grantwriting.html

Though a poet, I usually can't abide poetry. Yet I have been
finding such gems lately, here and there, on the net -- poems that
truly speak to me and tell their stories eloquently with grace and
magic. It makes me wish I did have a publication with which to
showcase and promote them.

And then I think, why don't I? So I'm starting to think that maybe
(just maybe) I will start to look into just what that might involve.

I would be ever so grateful for any suggestions/directions to help
me emerge from my ignorance of how this might be done.
How much should I charge?

Hi Writesters:

I'm new to the tribe. Thanks for being here.

Situation:

I have a meeting Friday with a couple of business consultants, who are looking for a ghost writer for their book. This will our first meeting, in which I learn about the size, scope and vision of their project. They will probably press me for "how much is it gonna cost," and "What do you charge."

I'm a very versatile technical writer about to hang my shingle as a business writer/corporate communications consultant. I know my time to be worth $50/hour. I will be needing work, and doubt that these guys can pay $50/hour for me to write their book. Certainly I can fudge on the price, considering the length of time it will take to complete a book of any scope.

Question: How should I structure my rate for a gig like this? What should I charge? I'm open to ideas.

Thank you all!

I see there is a lack of active participation in this group by the dates on the post. For those of you that are in the San Francisco - Bay Area and are interested in Grant Writing I would be happy to arrange some informal meetings and even host discussions.

Aspiring Grantwriter

I am an aspiring grantwriter looking for advice.
For the last 8 years I have been working in a completely different field. Six months ago I had a baby and thought Grantwriting would be a career I would really like to pursue (My previous career was too many hours and too much stress for a new mom). Do any of you have advice on how to get the first few jobs. In the paper or on the internet all the job postings request 3-5 years experience. I really feel I would be successful if I could just get that first job. What are your experiences with breaking into grantwriting?

Greetings All

Quick intro.
I'm stupid tired, so forgive any misspellings.

I am The Dr., I am Small biz owner from the washington d.c. area. I'm looking to startup a small recylcing company in the area and I am not saving money as fast as I like so I decided to start writing for grants to help expedite things a little bit.

I'm not an expert by any means in grant writing so I'm hoping that some of you here are more familiar with the process.
my brain is tired because I just put in a full 8 hours of research on grants for my new biz proposal. I dont really feel like I got anywhere, but I am learning the terms so I can do more effective searches tomorrow. Anyways I'll be checking in occassionally to give updates on how the process is going for me.

I'm in year 3 of my 5 year plan and as these things go I'm quasi-on schedule. I'm looking to break into the field of on-site paper shredding and consequently paper recycling. if any of you have any insight into this area or knowledge you wouldnt mind sharing I would greatly appreciate and I will try to return the favour in kind.

ok I go sleepy now.

Animal Related Resources

Does anyone know of any sources that fund animal rights related projects? I am currently researching funding for a project that promotes veganism. I have already contacted PETA but they typically don't fund outside projects. I am thinking more along the lines of a foundation interested in animal rights. I would appreciate it if anyone has any resources or could point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Funding Television Production via CPB/PBS

Although the topic here is Grant Proposals in general (for a whopping 4 tribe members...nothing like single-digit levels of interest), I myself am focused mainly on making films or broadcast shows. The following links might be of great interest to someone trying to get funding for production of a film suitable for broadcast via PBS:

You can sign up for a newsletter on CPB television production funding information at:
http://www.cpb.org/newsletters/fundingnews.html

You can download a 22-page .pdf document on CPB's Contract Terms and Conditions for producers at:
http://www.cpb.org/grants/0212_agreements.html

You can learn all about producing for PBS at:
http://www.pbs.org/producers/

There are a few programs for funding PBS external projects that apparently have been discontinued. However, if you check out the production information listed above, you will find that PBS DOES have money available for production funding and DOES consider work by outside producers. (Which my first choice, The Discovery Channel, does not...)

And if anyone has ANYTHING of interest to post on the subject of getting other people to pay for stuff you are interested in doing then by all means slap it on down here in the message board please.
